@fbievan I was very early in my Fedi adventure when I started, so Mastodon was the default choice and I didn't want to take the time to look into the others before I got the Mastodon instance running.
Also, I don't like Pleroma because of the insane crap you can do with Pleroma's MRF policies.
I may end up hosting again. I have a few more domains that I keep up that I can use in that case.
However, I am very uncomfortable with Linux and need very detailed guides with commands to do most anything.
Honestly, these days if I did start up another instance, I'd probably use a combination of available guides and ChatGPT to get me through things because I barely know what I'm doing, especially when it comes to network security or optimization of resources. I was harshly overpaying for my Mastodon instance because I didn't know how to optimize stuff to get the most out of the hardware.
